Preparing for a Successful Surgery and Recovery

At Southwest Breast & Aesthetics, we're committed to ensuring your surgical experience is as safe and comfortable as possible. Following these perioperative instructions will help optimize your surgery outcomes and promote a smooth recovery.

BEFORE YOUR SURGERY

2-4 Weeks Before Surgery:

  • Stop smoking and avoid all nicotine products
  • Discontinue blood-thinning medications and supplements as directed by your surgeon
  • Arrange for someone to drive you home after surgery and stay with you for the first 24-48 hours

1 Week Before Surgery:

  • Avoid alcohol consumption
  • Fill all prescribed medications
  • Prepare your recovery area at home with necessary supplies

The Night Before Surgery:

  • Shower with an antibacterial soap
  • Do not eat or drink anything after midnight (unless otherwise instructed)
  • Get a good night's sleep

THE DAY OF SURGERY

  • Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes
  • Do not wear makeup, jewelry, or contact lenses
  • Bring a list of all medications you're currently taking
  • Arrive at the designated time with your responsible adult companion

AFTER YOUR SURGERY

Immediate Post-Op Care:

  • Follow all post-operative instructions provided by your surgeon
  • Take prescribed medications as directed
  • Wear compression garments as instructed
  • Keep incisions clean and dry

First Week After Surgery:

  • Rest and limit your activities as advised
  • Attend your scheduled follow-up appointments
  • Report any unusual symptoms or concerns to our office immediately

Long-Term Recovery:

  • Gradually increase your activity level as directed by your surgeon
  • Protect your incisions from sun exposure
  • Follow all dietary and lifestyle recommendations

Specific Instructions By Procedure

Breast Augmentation:

  • Wear your surgical bra 24/7 for the first week
  • Avoid upper body exercises for 4-6 weeks

Breast Lift/Reduction:

  • Sleep with your upper body slightly elevated for the first week
  • Avoid lifting anything heavier than 5 pounds for 2-3 weeks

Body Contouring Procedures:

  • Wear compression garments as directed
  • Avoid sitting for prolonged periods during the first week

Facial Procedures:

  • Keep your head elevated while sleeping for the first week
  • Apply cold compresses as directed to reduce swelling

Important Reminders

  • If you experience severe pain, bleeding, or signs of infection, contact our office immediately
  • Stay hydrated and maintain a healthy diet to support healing
  • Be patient with your body as it heals - full results may take several weeks or months to become apparent
